About

Sanctuary House is a shelter that offers temporary housing for women and children who are victims of domestic violence and need a safe place to stay. When a woman comes to stay, she will have access to community resources through the help of our trained staff. She will be given her own bedroom, have access to a fully stocked kitchen and laundry room, a playroom and outdoor recreational area for her children to play, as well as a common space where she can connect with the staff and other residents. This is a service provided free of charge.

Since 1991, Sanctuary House has been supporting and empowering survivors of domestic violence through the provision of education, resources, shelter, one on one support, and crisis intervention 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our service covers the area from Grand Falls to Nackawic. Before our doors were open, women and children in this area would have to go to Fredericton in order to find shelter and counseling for abuse. A small group of people worked for years to open Sanctuary House and since then, our efforts have remained equally as hard to ensure our doors continue to stay open.

It is a lot of work, but we believe that women and children deserve the right to be safe and the right to have some place to talk about their fears and disappointments, but also hopes and dreams.
